About Jack

Jack Ta is a highly spirited jazz pianist, arranger, and orchestrator. At only 17, he already gained recognition for his talent, performing as a leader and sideman at festivals and competitions in New Zealand and Vietnam. Jack has performed with some of the highest-profile musicians on the current music scene: Umar Zakaria, Rodger Fox, Dave Wilson, Abe Baillie, William Kao, Nick Cornish, Nguyen Le, Tri Pham, Carl Woodward, and many more. In recognition of his hard work, Jack was awarded 1st place at the NZ jazz improvisation competition. In addition, he won multiple awards for Best Performance on Piano, Best Improvised Solo, Best Performance on Saxophone, and Best Arrangement at numerous music festivals both locally and nationally. In terms of musical influences, Jack draws inspiration from the rich bebop tradition while incorporating the complexities of modern improvisation. His influences include jazz legends such as Barry Harris, Wynton Kelly, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, McCoy Tyner, Geoffrey Keezer, and Benny Green. He embraces the art of arranging from modern-day arrangers like Sammy Nestico, Steven Feifke, and Charlie Rosen. Jack's playing style reflects honesty, engagement, and a strong emphasis on showmanship. His performances both demonstrate technical proficiency and reflect his genuine passion for jazz, leaving a lasting impact on the music scene. With such a promising start to his career, it's evident that Jack is poised to contribute significantly to the world of jazz in the years to come.
