About Evan
Hi! My name is Evan. I'm an honors student and competitive debater with a longstanding interest in literature, rhetoric, and the humanities. My academic interests range from classical literature and philosophy to persuasive writing and argumentation.
As a debate competitor (ranked 11th in the state of California and 1st in San Diego), I've spent years studying how ideas are communicated effectively (whether through writing, public speaking, or literary analysis). I enjoy exploring complex texts, developing strong arguments, and helping others become more thoughtful readers, writers, and communicators.
When I'm not studying or competing, you'll usually find me reading, writing, running, or trying new coffee spots around town.

I believe the best way to improve as a writer is to understand why good writing works. I know that for many, this skill does not come naturally, and requires personalized instruction. Rather than simply correcting essays, I help students develop the skills to analyze texts, construct stronger arguments, and express complex ideas with clarity and precision.
Lessons are tailored to each student's goals, whether that's improving grades, preparing for advanced coursework, strengthening analytical writing, or developing confidence in discussion and debate. A typical session may involve reviewing an essay, working through a reading assignment, refining argument structure, or practicing rhetorical techniques.
As a competitive debater and honors student, I bring a strong background in argumentation, persuasion, and literary analysis. My goal is not just to help students succeed on a particular assignment, but to help them develop into more thoughtful readers, writers, and communicators.
I am open to working with elementary school, middle school, and high school students.
