About Jarif

Hi! I’m Jarif, a second-year Medicine student at Monash University.

I graduated high school with a 99.60 ATAR, including a 97 in Mathematical Methods, 97 in Physics and 95 in Chemistry. I’ve always enjoyed Maths and Science, and I really enjoy being able to help students understand things that they might initially find confusing.

I’ve been tutoring for a few years now, working with students from Years 5–10 in both one-on-one and small-group settings. I’ve helped students with everything from understanding difficult topics and keeping up with schoolwork to preparing for assessments and pushing themselves with more challenging questions.

I think one of the most important things about tutoring is making students feel comfortable. There’s no point in having a tutor if you’re too nervous to say, “I don’t understand this.” I try to create a relaxed environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes and work through problems without feeling judged.

Whether your child needs a bit of extra help, wants to build stronger foundations, or is looking for some extension work, I’ll tailor the lessons around what works best for them.

About the lesson

I like to keep my lessons relaxed and interactive rather than spending the whole hour talking at the student. I’ll adjust each lesson depending on what the student is currently learning and where they need the most help.

A typical lesson might include:
■ Quick check-in: go over what they’ve been learning at school and identify anything they’re struggling with.
■ Explain the concept: break the topic down into simple steps and work through examples together.
■ Practice together: work through questions step-by-step to make sure they understand how and why the method works.
■ Independent practice: give the student a chance to try questions on their own while I’m there to help if they get stuck.
■ Challenge and extension: once they’re comfortable with the basics, we can move on to harder questions and extension work.
■ Review: recap what we covered, clear up any remaining questions and discuss what they should focus on before the next lesson.

I can also use lessons to help with homework, upcoming tests and assignments depending on what the student needs at the time.

Most importantly, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is for them to finish each lesson feeling more confident and thinking, “Oh, that actually makes sense now.”
