About Alika

Hello! My name's Alika and I graduated from Sydney Girls High School last year. I'm currently taking a semi gap-year before going to study a Physics degree at Oxford University in October (I will be continuing online lessons while overseas!) I really enjoy teaching and helping students not only achieve their full potential and the marks to reflect this, but foster interest and engagement in a subject. During the HSC, I received a 96 in Physics (1st SGHS rank), 98 in Maths Extension 1 (7th SGHS rank) and 96 in Maths Extension 2 (3rd SGHS rank) as well as 2 Young Scientists Awards for my Year 12 Physics Depth Study. I was also listed as an HSC all-rounder. Outside of teaching I enjoy music, gymnastics and studying languages!

About the lesson

I have experience at tutoring centres for years 7-12 teaching Maths (Standard, Advanced, Extension 1 and 2) and Physics. I provide students with study techniques, extensive practice questions, organisation/exam prep (including how to minimise silly mistakes) and in-depth explanations of tricky concepts from school, along with being very familiar with the new HSC syllabus.

Lessons are highly structured - with time given to students questions from school work, working through the understanding stage of new topics at school, practice questions and then revision of previous topics depending on a student's rate of progression. Nearing exams, we focus on student's weaknesses, using a personal record of questions they have struggled with throughout the term assigned into causes - lack of understanding, challenge/enrichment question, and common silly mistakes - along with time pressure and environment practice. I teach students this "feedback --> correction of past errors --> spaced repetition of tricky questions" process so that they have the tools to maximise their gains from independent study, and take these skills forward into any subject and any exam. I also help students to create personalised lists of what to check over during the last minutes of an exam - where many marks can be gained!
