About Krystal

Hello there. Here's a little about me: I've been in the field of education for 7 years. I have a BA degree in English Education, with an emphasis in literature. My minor is in Spanish, for which I also emphasized in literature. Furthermore, I also have a 120 Hr TEFL certificate, which I received in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
I have various experiences in educational settings. I volunteered as a mentor with LB's BLAST program for 2 semesters, for which I helped out at Beach High School. Afterwards, I was a homework lab tutor and conversation partner at my university, helping international students, as well as a college student aide working at a middle school helping an 8th grader from Mexico. During this time, I became more informed about, and interested in teaching ESL. After graduating / and pursuing my teaching credential program, I worked at an after school program which provided child care, tutoring, seasonal camps, birthday party services, and other activities (gymnastics, x-box, art classes). Aside from work experience, I have done many hours of observation in schools to meet my course requirements.

I have been tutoring in English/ ESL/ Spanish these past 3 years (mostly virtually) and really enjoy helping students. I also help with elementary school work if students need help in other subjects. Currently I substitute teach as my main line of work, and I love it. I enjoy getting to know people and learning from others. I'm very into learning about other cultures and expanding my own vocabulary.

Growing up, I was involved in many things. I was put into different classes such as gymnastics, ice-skating, swimming lessons etc., but I did volleyball and soccer the longest. I also took a few guitar lessons and took piano lessons for a few years. I admire many skills and talents & would love to hear about yours! Some extras: I volunteered for a few years for different organizations and enjoyed it, I've been a pet momma since my childhood! (I love animals), and I'm big on recycling. Thanks for reading!

About the lesson

I am open to helping any students considering my help. I would tailor the instruction to be based around students' needs and interests. Enjoyment is important to keep the lessons engaging. I would first try to get to know you as a person, learn your interests, and consider your learning style and preferences. If I noticed that lessons weren't 'reaching you' as much as they could, I would modify them to help your learning. I would be open to suggestions on how best to teach you.

Susan is a great mom & she's very supportive of her son Jack, who demonstrates a great level of writing skills & good comprehension. It is great to see the desire to revise & improve on areas of struggle to become a better student of Spanish. They are a very sweet & understanding family.

Details

A small fee would be incurred if I were traveling to your home (based around gas prices & the distance of the commute). Depending on the lesson, a small fee could also be added should I need to spend more time reviewing material or searching for some if your needs are a little harder to meet. Should small considerations like this be a concern, it would be discussed and agreed upon :-) *It is noted, however, that travel expense would automatically be $5 more. I would only consider charging a bit more if you lived 5+ miles away (as determined by navigator for shortest path).
