About Koray
I’m Koray and I’m an English tutor. I've just finished a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in French and Francophone studies and minoring in Philosophy at the University of Sydney. I love languages, different cultures, history, and enjoy reading!
I am a local through and through! I grew up in Inner West Sydney, first attending Burwood Public School, then Concord High School. My friends were from a mix of backgrounds and nationalities, which, looking back now, helped me to naturally have a wider heart for others.
For me, I think one of the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to give their time and effort. Both in primary school and high school, the teachers that have made the most impression on me are the ones who helped me and other students by taking the time both in and outside of class to explain a difficult math question, to further explain essay structure or, even, to comb through and edit an essay or creative piece.
While doing so, they'd suggest additional resources to consult that were both academic and recreational, which motivated me to study independently and kept me intellectually curious about the subject.
As a tutor, these memories have stuck with me and helped formed my identity. It has also pushed me to be a better and more empathetic teacher! Hopefully, you'll receive the same care and compassion my teachers have shown me. Looking forward to it!

Using my own resources tailored to the intellectual and academic needs of each student, a lesson with my will feel structured, simple yet dense. As an experienced primary school tutor of 2 years, I offer lessons from between 40 minute to 1 hour - all depending on the learning needs of each student.
As mentioned, for the past two years, I’ve been tutoring K-6 students in English. While teaching K-6 students, I came to appreciate the the dedication and effort that educators put into their work, and the amount of sacrifice it takes to see students grow in their academic education.
The reason I say this is because I realise the importance it is to make a commitment to taking on new students, and the impact a steady, reliable tutor will have for them. You won’t be disappointed in choosing me as a tutor for your child!
Areas of Focus
Persuasive, narrative and recount writing styles
Show Don’t Tell, Metaphors, Similes
One and two idea sentences
PEEL / SEEL structure
Various spelling rules, including i before e, double consonant rule, etc.
Reading comprehension Q A
Inference from a stimulus
NAPLAN...
And, of course, any homeworkthat is a bit trickier than usual!
Areas of Improvement
There are a few common strugglesthat I’ve seen across the board, and have developed a few tricks to help students:
Run-on sentences
CUPS (Capitals, understanding, punctuation, spelling)
Guessing at comprehension questions
Stuck, and see no way to continue
Low confidence
I realised sometimes it’s just as easy as:
Showing them an example on how to do it first and getting them to copy before they can attempt at their own.
Giving word conditions, e.g., No “And then”
CUPS – giving them a simple acronym to use to check through their work
Give them “quiet, focused” time on a task – like a butterfly breaking out of a cocoon, I realise that students naturally realise how to do the writing task on their own if they just have a bit of time to themselves!
Talking! If the student struggles with writing, either I will talk through it with them, or nudge them in the right direction verbally.
