About Iris

My teaching approach in mathematics is gentle, reflective, and centred on building deep conceptual understanding. I specialise in abstract algebra, number theory, mathematical proofs, topology, and other advanced theoretical concepts. These areas can seem challenging, but breaking them down into intuitive steps makes them accessible and meaningful.

I encourage students to think critically, explore ideas, and connect concepts rather than just memorising formulas. Lessons often include visual aids, real-world examples, and step-by-step reasoning to make abstract topics tangible. I focus on developing strong foundations, helping students tackle complex theorems with confidence.

I work closely with DIY learners and researchers, guiding them to discover their own unique approaches to challenging problems. This fosters independence, creativity, and a sense of ownership in learning. Each student has a distinct path to understanding, and I support them in finding it.

About the lesson

I am a passionate Maths tutor with over 6 years of experience and a BA in Mathematics. My expertise lies in topology and knot theory, fascinating fields that study shapes, spaces, and continuous deformations. I help students visualise these abstract ideas using clear diagrams, hands-on models, and real-world examples, such as molecular structures and artistic designs.

I have worked with students curious about abstract mathematics, physics, and even the connections between math and art. My lessons focus on building deep conceptual understanding, showing how ideas interconnect rather than just memorising formulas. I encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and creative exploration in every session.

Complex concepts become approachable when broken into intuitive steps, and I guide students to appreciate both the intuition and the rigorous reasoning behind each idea. I aim to inspire learners to see mathematics as both logical and creative.
