About Maxine
My name is Maxine, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Data Science. I love both math and working with people, and I enjoy helping students build real understanding and confidence in the subject. I bring a calm, patient, and structured approach to tutoring, adapting explanations to each student’s learning style. I’ve experienced both excellent and ineffective teaching, and I understand how much of a difference the right guidance can make. My goal is to remind students that math is not a “magic” skill reserved for a few people — it is absolutely learnable with the right support, clear explanations, and practice. I strive to make math feel clear, approachable, and manageable while supporting steady progress and strong foundational skills.

My approach as a tutor starts with getting on the same page about the student’s goals, current understanding, and where they feel stuck. I typically begin by explaining the relevant rules, definitions, or concepts in a clear and approachable way, then guide the student through practice problems step by step to show how those ideas are applied. I check in frequently to make sure the material is making sense and adjust my explanations as needed, using multiple perspectives until something clicks. I prioritize adapting to each student’s learning style and building confidence alongside understanding. I tutor students from elementary school through college-level math, and I am especially comfortable working with elementary and high school students who are building foundational skills or preparing for coursework and exams.
