About Valerie
Physics is one of three subjects I teach across a ten-year tutoring career during which I have supported 470 students of genuinely varying ages and confidence levels. My background gives me an unusually practical lens on physics, since I naturally connect physical concepts to things that can be modeled, tested, and directly observed together. I am an informal, conversational teacher, and my physics sessions often feel like collaborative experimentation rather than formal, one-directional instruction delivered from the front. I work with both nervous beginners and more advanced students preparing seriously for exams, adjusting pace and depth depending on what each individual genuinely needs. Seeing a student move from passively accepting a formula to confidently predicting how a system will behave is, for me, the clearest sign of real understanding.

Physics enters my teaching often through small simulation style projects, where students model the behaviour of a real system and compare the outcome against the actual physics equations, creating a memorable bridge between theory and application. I keep explanations short, no longer than ten minutes, always followed immediately by guided hands on practice, since long lectures tend to quickly lose a student's attention. Students keep a personal error log to track recurring misunderstandings, which I review regularly to catch developing weaknesses well before they turn into larger gaps in understanding. Each session closes with a short reflection question asking students to summarise the day's key idea entirely in their own words. I consistently favour applied, practical problems over purely theoretical ones whenever the specific topic genuinely allows for it.
