About Jude
I'm a first-year Maths and Theoretical Physics student at the University of St Andrews, passionate about both subjects and genuinely committed to helping students not just understand the material, but develop a real love for maths and physics and an appreciation for the extraordinary range of places that the subjects can take them.
Alongside my studies I pursue self-directed research projects spanning quantitative finance, engineering and machine learning, all built around hands-on coding work. I am currently working on path geometry and implied volatility surface interpolation using signature kernel methods. Having pursued these projects for several years, I have a genuine understanding of what careers in maths and physics actually look like in practice, meaning I can offer students guidance on where their interests and strengths could take them.
Beyond subject tutoring I'm also happy to help students explore what areas of maths and physics genuinely excite them, suggest project ideas suited to their interests, and guide them through developing those projects — particularly valuable for personal statements, and developing the self motivated skills that thrive at university.
Outside of academia, I am training for a marathon and also an expedition trek in the Andes

Each lesson is tailored to the specific individual. I start by identifying exactly where the gaps are for every student rather than working through material they already understand. In the first session I like to ask the student to talk me through a problem or explain a topic in their own words, which quickly reveals whether they have genuine understanding or have just memorised a procedure. Following this, I offer multiple ways to visualise and think about each topic, trying various angles and approaches until it becomes truly intuitive rather than surface-level. This is particularly valuable for students trying to push into the A* or 9 bracket and those who feel they are falling behind.
Alongside my own studies, I spent a year working in school run workshops to teach A-Level Maths and Further Maths to other students which gave me real insight into breaking down complex ideas in ways that resonate with different thinkers.
I primarily teach A-Level Further Maths, Maths and Physics and GCSE Maths, Physics and Chemistry, but am happy to take on anything maths or physics related at any level — just get in touch and ask. Sessions typically run for one hour and are conducted online via Zoom with an interactive whiteboard. I offer a free 30-minute introductory call so students and parents can get a sense of my teaching style before committing.

Details
I offer a free 30-minute introductory call before any commitment, so we can discuss your goals and make sure I'm the right fit.
My rates are as follows:
GCSE Maths, Physics and Chemistry — £30/hr. For students looking to consolidate foundations, close gaps, or push into the top grade boundaries.
A-Level Maths and Physics — £35/hr. For students working toward strong A-Level results, whether catching up or pushing for A and A*.
A-Level Further Maths — £40/hr. Further Maths demands a significantly deeper level of understanding than standard A-Level Maths, and my approach of offering multiple ways to visualise and think about each topic requires genuine mathematical depth to execute well across the full range of Further Maths content.
Independent research projects and university application support — £45/hr. For students who want to develop their own research projects, explore areas of maths and physics beyond the syllabus, or build something meaningful for their university personal statement. Because every student's interests and goals are different, I invest time outside of sessions researching and preparing material tailored specifically to what they want to work on — this additional preparation is reflected in the rate.
I also offer discounted packages for those who want to commit to a block of sessions — 5 hours at 10% off or 10 hours at 15% off across any of the above. Packages are paid upfront and valid for three months.
For students applying to competitive universities who want both subject tutoring and project mentoring, feel free to get in touch to discuss a tailored package.
