About Alex
Hi, I'm Alex and am from California. I got my BA in philosophy at Tufts University in Boston, and am now getting my MLitt in philosophy at University of St Andrews. I was a professional brewer and winemaker for 5 years, and have been a musician my whole life. I have played in bands since I was 12, and spent a couple years playing shows in Brooklyn as well as a short stint in CA. My hobbies include skateboarding, golf, exercise, playing/writing music, and being outdoors.

My lessons will be structured around and catered to each student. I recommend a 60-minute lesson, however am amenable to anywhere from 45-minute to 90-minute lessons. My teaching philosophy centers around promotion of the individual and being sympathetic to each learner's background and skill level. Though I always aim to teach towards results with high marks, I believe that grasping underlying theory is most important in the long-run. I focus as much on core, conceptual understanding as much as I do finding answers to a problem set.
I am an early career teacher, and have spent a year teaching middle school in the US (social studies and life science) and have solid experience outside the classroom in private tutor settings - both in academics and music. I am offering specifically maths and music lessons, as I excel in both. I am currently wrapping up my postgraduate degree in philosophy, with the intention of resuming my teaching career.
My lessons are for students up to age 18 at any level.
