Being a private tutor and giving private classes is an exciting job. However, during the first meeting with your students, it is absolutely essential to make a good impression. This will eventually allow you to break the ice and begin a dialogue to get to know the person you are going to teach. This discovery will allow you to better understand your student and more effectively convey your knowledge. You won’t be searching for what to say, because you will have prepared in advance and you will thus be able to respond to questions in a confident and professional way.

Relax and break the stereotype
As a student, it is not always that enjoyable to spend time with a teacher. Being a tutor is not an easy job, because your student is not necessarily willing to work with you, as the request often comes from parents in order to improve academic result.

So, during your first meeting, you must break the stereotype of the teacher who is too strict, establishing a more relaxed atmosphere. You are not in a classroom, but the goal is to give private lessons that will help students improve their skills and academic performance. It is therefore important that your student likes you, that he or she wants to see you again, and that they learns more easily in a relaxed environment. Being a private teacher is not the same as being a teacher in a school, and therefore you must keep in mind that the student teacher relationship will not be the same. You can afford to be more relaxed, understanding and easy going with your student, because you will not need to take care of the discipline. The more you have a close relationship with your student, the more they will want to work with you.
