About James

7+ years experience on multi-billion dollar projects, working as a Project Manager/ Lead/ Project Engineer. Holder of an undergraduate and master's degree from Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter), with specialization in Engineering, Geotechnics, Surveying and Management. Born in England and regular attendee to other countries for business to understand different cultures and working environments. Currently based in Canada.

About the lesson

What makes a good Project Manager? What is the key to Project success? How do Young Professionals develop and advance their career? These sessions target new and aspiring Project Managers, Project Engineers and Young Professionals. They will cover an overview of Project lifecycle, focusing on the Project Management Office phasing of 1) Start well, 2) Execution, 3) Close Out. Each session will focus on a different skill (Engineering management, Procurement Management, Construction Management), involving key topics such as: o Session 1 – Overview (responsibilities/ job role), PMO summary and links shared. o Session 2 – Design interface (Design Change Request, Design Change Note, Request for Information), third party vs DMC internal. o Session 3 – Open session (based on what we want to cover). o Session 4 – Scope of work generation, procurement interface (technical bid evaluations, tendering process). o Session 5 – Management of Change; field changes (Contract Management - Request for changes, field work instruction, request for information, change orders, Project Change orders). o Session 6 – Open session (based on what we want to cover). o Session 7 – SOPs, RAMS, MOCs (safety interface). o Session 8 – QAQC (trackers, templates, standards). o Session 9 – Open session (based on what we want to cover). o Session 10 – Completion (handover, completion dossiers, process flow, templates). o Session 11 – Data tracking, metrics, reporting. Examples will be provided from experience gaining within a functioning PMO group and extensive experience within the construction/ mining sectors (with a focus on multi-billion dollar projects).
