About Bel

I'm an intersection-feminist, environmentalist, ukulele-playing, theatre maker with a love of directing, acting and writing.

Passionate about environmental sustainability, representation, and accessibility in the arts, I'm a strong believer in the power of theatre to be a force for positive change. I've performed in over 38 theatrical productions and 3 of my plays have been published by Australian Plays.

In 2014 I co-founded the independent theatre company, Wit Incorporated, based in Melbourne's inner west, where I was Artistic Director from 2014 to 2020. There I created the children’s outreach program, Wit Kids (2016), which continues to provide low-cost after school drama classes to children.

Since my return to Aotearoa I've focused more on my love of directing. I relish the opportunity to chat about acting technique - the exploration on the rehearsal room floor is my happy place! I bring this same excitement and passion to my teaching. I look forward to discussing your work and getting you started on your performance journey!

About the lesson

SESSIONS
Develop your skills as an artist in tailored one-on-one sessions. Lessons can supplement your existing drama or theatre classes, or can provide a specialized program that focuses on your goals. With a passion for holistic, safe and nourishing theatre practice, my classes are the perfect place to hone your instincts and explore character psychology, movement, and voice.

TUTOR QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
15 years of theatre experience - acting, directing, writing, production management, artistic direction, drama teaching - Master of Fine Arts (Distinction), Theatre/directing, VUW (2021) - LCTL Performing (Distinction), Speech & Drama, Trinity College - London (2010) - Bachelor of Performing Arts, Music Theatre, CPIT NASPA (2008) - ACTL Performing, Trinity College London (2005) Along with actor training in theatre and screen from Brave Studios and Howard Find Studios - Melbourne.

LEVEL
Perfect for students 12 to 18 years, and undergraduate tutoring. Lessons for younger students are also available. Get in touch to talk about these. Options for lessons in small groups or pairs to keep the costs down.

LOCATION
Sessions available in person (Wellington, Aotearoa) or via Zoom.

COST
1 hour sessions = $69 (includes 1 hour teacher prep)
Half hour sessions = $35

Perfect! Bel creates such a warm and safe environment. I really appreciate the different warm up exercises to get me out of self-consciousness. I’m grateful for her openness to hear my ideas and what I most was searching for is someone who can guide and lead me in the right direction with the questions I have. And Bel does exactly that.
