About Rubeena
I am a qualified teacher with over 7 years of experience in Secondary Science Education. I specialise in tutoring GCSE Chemistry and A-level Chemistry. As a former Head of Chemistry, I have the experience of driving a department to ensure the best outcomes for pupils. With a proven track record of enabling students to achieve their best, I can ensure student progress. Furthermore, as an examiner for AQA, I have in-depth understanding of exam board expectations, assessment objectives and how to help students maximise their grades. My teaching approach focuses on clear explanations, exam technique mastery and confidence building through extended practice. My lessons are tailor made for students based on their needs, their prior knowledge and any identified misconceptions. I offer students the support but also space when necessary in order to develop independence and problem-solving skills. I have experience in supporting students of all abilities and those with SEN needs and often make my lessons relevant without deviating from the content that needs to be learnt. My experience in content creation for major educational platforms such as Seneca Learning and Save My Exams, is rooted in my strong subject knowledge as well as knowledge of exam specifications. I have been tutoring online for several years, leveraging on the availability of excellent interactive tools. My lessons make the most of the time available through structured and purposeful lessons.

My lessons always begin with questions from prior topics or lessons. These are short questions that recall previously covered content. This helps the students to re-establish the memory of the content whilst also helping me as the teacher to identify the gaps the student may have in content. This teaching practice is heavily evidence-based and has proven to be successful in helping students to remember and apply their knowledge at a later time. I then go into teaching the main topic of the session which may be a continuation of the previous session or a new section from the exam specification. I use clear explanations and diagrams to go through this content, while embedding keywords and definitions as I go through. Students will be asked targeted questions and checks of understanding throughout, before I set them practice questions. Practice questions may be generic questions or past exam paper questions, based on the student needs. I then live mark and explain to the student exactly where and how many marks they’ve scored and how they could improve their attempt at the question or a similar one next time.
