About Reece

"When a student recognizes they don't know something, it should be a transition to knowing. Not a termination of thinking" - Connie Hamilton."

As someone who grew up with very little access to tutoring services, I believe it is my responsibility to provide students with the opportunities that can help them soar in their academic dreams and needs. I tutor in both English Literature and History with History being my ultimate passion. Understanding how a study of the past can weave topics such as the development of medicine, the Cold War, and the European economy is both fascinating and integral to understanding how our society has come to be the way it is today. I currently work as a Librarian/Teacher at a Secondary School for 11-15 aged students where I hold 1-1 and group sessions relating to English and Literacy. My experience from working as a librarian in a school means that not can I help you learn key topics but I can provide you with the extra resources needed to succeed.

Hi there, I am a qualified historian and teacher, having achieved my postgraduate Master's Degree in History from the University of London in 2021 and my Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 2014 from the University of Hertfordshire. I have a decade's worth of experience in tutoring and mentoring young people of all ages in both English and History, from supporting First Year University students in their History dissertations to supporting under-12s with their SATs, reading, writing, and other literacy capabilities.

- Designed and delivered lessons plans to over 100 students across UK, US and international curriculums (GCSE, A Level to Masters, PHDs).

- Supported neurodivergent students and other pupils that required particular SEND support.

- Helped students to successfully apply to some of the top schools and universities in their respective countries including those in the 'Ivy League', Russell Group as well supporting students to achieve a '1st' in their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

I strongly believe that every student has an independent learning style and through a flexible, practical, focused, and fun approach, every pupil can succeed. I therefore advocate for a teaching approach that supports pragmatic learning and critical thinking beyond simply memorizing information. Within a 60 minute session I ensure that theoretical understanding is taught with clarity in order for successful application in tests, assignments and coursework.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My love for the humanities sparked back in school, fueled by a fascination with how stories, societies, and the past collide. I shifted into private tutoring over a decade ago when I realized that the "lightbulb moments" happen best with tailored support in a one-to-one format or small groups, away from the bloated nature of an oversized student classroom!
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I dive into everything from the Tudor courts to the nuances of Shakespeare and the complexities of social class. I live for a heated debate on historical interpretations or sociological theories, though I’ll admit, drilling the "do’s and don’ts" of bibliography formatting isn't as fun getting into the heat and action of subjects the Russian or French Revolutions!
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely—I had a teacher who spoke about history like it was a juicy gossip column and literature like it was a survival guide for life. They taught me that a subject isn't just a list of facts; it’s a lens to view the world through, and I try to bring that same infectious energy to every session.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience is the foundation, but a "detective’s eye" is what makes the difference—being able to spot exactly where a student’s confidence is snagged. You also need a healthy dose of creativity and the ability to pivot your explanation until it finally "clicks" for the learner.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once had a student who hated Sociology until we analyzed the social hierarchy of their favorite reality TV show Spongebob Squarepants. Suddenly, complex theories of power and status became crystal clear! It taught me that any subject can be fascinating if you find the right "way in."
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The biggest challenge is always the "mountain of content" students feel they have to climb for GCSEs and A-levels. My job is to act as the Sherpa or the guide—helping them see that if they understand the core concepts and strategies to approach an exam, they don’t need to memorize the entire library to succeed.

  • 8) What makes you a Superprof?

It’s the blend of multiple degrees, over a decade of "in-the-trenches" classroom experience, and a genuine obsession with seeing my students win. I don't just teach for the exam; I teach so you walk away feeling like an absolute expert in your own right.
