About Oliver
Who I Am & Why I Teach My name is Dr. Oliver Chigariro, and I hold a PhD in Social Work. For over 25 years, I have devoted my life to education, mentoring, and helping people unlock their full potential. I have had the privilege of supervising and guiding students at Stafford University in Uganda and Gideon Robert University in Zambia, supporting them in research, writing, and academic development. Currently, I serve as an External Examination Assessor for Welwitchia University in Namibia, where I review and evaluate the academic work of students at a high level. These roles have given me deep experience in nurturing learners, identifying their strengths, and helping them excel. I teach because I believe education transforms lives. My goal is not only to help students pass exams, but to build confidence, discipline, and a love for learning that stays with them long after their studies. I use an approach that combines patience, encouragement, and clear explanations, making even complex concepts easy to understand. Now based in Hastings, New Zealand, I am passionate about bringing this international experience to support learners locally. With me, students don’t just get a tutor—they get a mentor who is deeply committed to their academic and personal growth. Teaching is not just my profession—it is my calling

My Personal Approach to Tutoring and Helping Students As an experienced educator, social worker, and mentor with a career spanning over 25 years, I believe every student has the ability to succeed when given the right guidance, encouragement, and support. My approach is centered on creating a positive, respectful, and engaging learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions, explore ideas, and grow at their own pace. I combine my academic expertise with practical experience from working in education, counseling, and youth development across different countries. This has taught me how to connect with learners from diverse backgrounds and tailor lessons to their individual strengths, challenges, and goals. In my sessions, I focus on: Building Confidence – encouraging students to believe in themselves and their potential. Simplifying Complex Concepts – breaking down difficult material into clear, practical steps. Interactive Learning – using real-life examples, discussions, and exercises to make lessons engaging and relevant. Personalized Support – adapting to each student’s pace, style, and academic needs, whether it’s catching up, excelling, or preparing for exams. Life Skills Beyond Academics – fostering discipline, resilience, and problem-solving skills that prepare students for life, not just exams. What makes my approach different is the blend of professional academic guidance with a genuine passion for mentoring young people and adults. I don’t just tutor—I partner with students on their learning journey, ensuring they feel supported, valued, and motivated. For students and families in Hastings, I offer not only subject knowledge but also the commitment to walk alongside learners, helping them discover their strengths and unlock their full potential.
