• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  Over the years I gained experience tutoring my friends and discovered that I enjoyed it quite a lot and I was very good at it. It was really helpful to develop my tutoring skills naturally over the years.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I have experience from both my undergrad course (B.comm in UCD), my Masters in Smurfit (Masters of Accounting) and my 3+ years of working in auditing. I understand the fundamentals of accounting which enables me to understand almost any accounting question that is put in front of me and I am able to explain it in a way that helps my students understand the question.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I had a brilliant accounting lecturer who was really good at keeping the lectures engaged and was able to explain the core accounting fundamentals which was essential to learning & getting a good grade in accounting.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I am a very patient person by nature and I am able to put my feet in the shoes of my students. Understand their perspective and work from where their level is at. This helps my students learn the fastest & supports them in retaining the knowledge longer term.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  The lecturer I referenced above, once was going through a tough question in a lecture. I was struggling to understand it and the lecturer kept going back to the basics regarding the core fundamental accounting standards & treatments. This really helped me understand exactly how & why the solution was the way it was. This inspired the way I wanted to teach my own students.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Sometimes, I still struggle to know what the exact approach to a question is. When you make certain assumptions, you could do the question correctly, but if the assumption is wrong, your answer is wrong. Making the correct assumption is difficult and it's never simple to always know what assumptions to make in an accounting question.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I love to help people and support people in the skills that I excel at. I developed my accounting knowledge over the years and found it while enjoying and fulfilling to teach other people with my expertise.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions ?

  From my experience over the years, I know what my students have been through because I went through the same thing. I know how to put myself in my students' position and work at their level to maximise how much they gain from my lessons.
