About Hemal

I am a 2nd Year Mathematics student at the University of Cambridge. I have achieved 5A*s at A-level including Maths and Further Maths and passed MAT and STEP II and III (S,S). I have many years' experience in tutoring since I started 5 years ago. I have had extremely positive results when tutoring in the past. Many were at the point of failing their GCSEs or A-Levels before I began tutoring them. Since then, they all went on to achieve the top grades (9s at GCSE and A* at A-Level).

About the lesson

The usual approach to teaching maths and further maths would be to focus on understanding rather than memorisation as this makes attempting questions much easier. This would involve going through the content of the syllabus but also giving some intuition and explanation for why the results are true. For the entrance tests, the priority is on doing as many questions as possible. In both the MAT and the STEP, the questions are much longer and more difficult meaning proper analysis and explanation of the question and solution is required. In particular, the choice of STEP questions will be considered depending on the strengths of the student as there is choice in the questions and each question is much harder than in even the MAT. I am a 2nd Year Mathematics student at the University of Cambridge. I have achieved 5A*s at A-level including Maths and Further Maths and passed MAT and STEP II and III (S,S). I have many years' experience in tutoring since I started 5 years ago. Lessons are typically 30 minutes to 1 hour but any duration can be catered to. Students of any age are welcome but in particular those at 6th form.
