About Timothy

There are little tricks and life hacks to help you remember and understand things in every aspect of learning and study. I had a hard time in school when I was a youth because I have ADHD, OCD & Tourette syndrome (it has diminished lots as I have become older) I was not a bad kid, just unfocused and not organized at all. I thought I wasn’t very smart and dropped out in grade 8 and started working in the trades. But when I was 30 I decided I wanted to get my diploma and went to test myself. I did an equivalence test and apparently I was at a grade 11 level!!! So I went to RRC and started grade 11. The next year I went to Louis Riel Arts & Technology Centre and took trig and applied math 30s as well as the electrical trades course and also English and science/physics and I was halfway through my last year and thought about quitting, I didn’t know my overall grade because I hadn’t paid all of my tuition and they wouldn’t let me know my marks and I thought I was barely making it. But when I finally graduated and was shocked to find out that I had an average of over 95% in each and every course I took since RRC, and was awarded the Governor General's Academic Award for 2014. And received a letter of congratulations from the Premier of Canada at the time and the GG and a few other members of parliament was such a good feeling and I finally realized that I was actually kind of intelligent. If only I could have finished school when I was younger and kept going and went to the U of M and pursued my dream of becoming a “Mad scientist!!” Muahahahaaa!!! But at the time I lacked the wisdom to know any better. And there is no such thing as a stupid question, no matter how it may seem because we don’t know what we don’t know. The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask because you will never know the answer.

Knowledge and wisdom!! You must have them both, you could be the most knowledgeable person in the world but without the wisdom to properly apply that knowledge it is almost useless. Everyone is different and we all learn and understand things in many different ways, some people can learn from simply reading, some learn from trial and error, some are just naturally good and excel easily at everything they do!! Others can’t understand how something functions until they can see the whole process take place and all the reading and listening won’t make any difference. But no matter how old/young/smart/oblivious you are you must figure out what way will work best for you and don’t overdo it in the ways you're not capable of because then you start to second guess yourself and that can lead to confusion and scattered facts that don’t line up. The main thing you do need to learn is an open mind, and self-awareness of the strength of your skills. But it’s easier said than done. A positive outlook and faith in yourself and ambition and drive are not mandatory but obviously they help. It’s not good to cram loads of info into your brain and then expect it to stay there. Don’t move on to something else until you fully understand every aspect of what you're studying. I tried to rarely use my scientific calculator, and did all my equations on scrap paper, when I was doing one of my exams I was using the calculator, and something seemed off with my math, my calculator was messed up and I only realized it because I understood the mechanics of the equations I was doing and it saved me from a bad grade, the exam took me a bit longer than everyone else, but I was the only one to get 97% so it was worth the effort.
