About Cara
A 1st class BA English Literature alumna of the University of Exeter, and A* candidate of English Language and Literature at GCSE and A-Level.
GCSE/A-Level Students: Having completed a GCSE and A-Level in English Literature/English Lang & Lit. to a high standard, I understand what exam boards expect of their students in various assessments. I have experience writing essays on poetry, prose, plays, films, as well as creative writing (both poetry and short stories), and presentations. I will help you cultivate any skills necessary to complete coursework and exams to either GCSE or A-Level standard, and produce work that you feel proud of.
Undergraduate Students: I have recent experience researching and writing undergraduate research papers, presentations, critical analysis, conference papers, and dissertation theses. I will confidently tutor undergraduate students in poetry, prose, creative writing, film theory and context, and basic critical theory. I am able to supervise essays written on literature in either Modern or Middle English.

GCSE and A-Level students: Prior to our first session, I will familiarise myself with your exam board's requirements, your set texts, and specimen papers - in other words, find out exactly what we need to focus on for your assessments and exams. In our first lesson, we will discuss aspects of the course you may be struggling with - or finding most enjoyable - so I can tailor my lesson plans to you. It's important to me that I help you undertake your work with as much passion, and as little stress, as possible. Our lessons will hone your practical writing and comprehension skills, but also cultivate your love of literature. If you are prone to stress, we can work through methods to reduce deadline and exam pressure, and optimise your performance in time-sensitive tests.
Undergraduate Students: I am able to provide additional support to your university course. I will aid you in planning and structuring essays/dissertations, deploying correct academic language, performing close analysis, and referencing your sources accurately. During my bachelors degree, I specialised in poetry, and have accrued substantial knowledge of poetic form and function. Other research areas I would be comfortable advising would be medieval literature, Romantic and Victorian literature, transatlantic and postcolonial literature, film form/style/context, creative writing, and manuscript interpretation.
