About Sohan

I am a 16 year old 11th grader at Awty International School of Houston. Aside from my test scores and advanced placement, I have always had a deep sense of love for math. It stems back to the kitchen, surrounded by my mother and brother as former made us memorize our times tables. Math was the connection between my immigrant Indian mother and I, which strengthened my bond for the practice. It has led me to take the Higher Level Math course at our school, the IB equivalent of AP Calculas. I hope to take my knowledge in the field of Robotics to help build a better and more green world. Tutoring is a great way of giving back to my discipline, which sadly many students hate on. I too strongly dislike the way math is taught in the traditional setting and instead want to show students the reason I fell in love with it in the first place. It is a beautiful language made to find patterns in the chaotic world around us and showing the students the beauty in the patterns is what I wish to achieve. Aside from my love for math, I am an average student. I am a dual sport Varsity athelte, Tennis and Basketball and love everything about both sports. I have two good parents and a twin brother. I have lived in Houston my whole life and love the city.

About the lesson

My teaching method is rooted in two ideas that have propelled me to mathematical success: understanding the proof and practice. First, The student will understand why the formulas and theorems work the way they do. Then instead of simply plugging what would have been stagnant knowledge into doing hundreds of the same practice problems, the instead will take this adaptive knowledge and reason their way through different problems of different variations. Why? Your memories of formulas may fail you on a test but the ability to go back to the basics and prove your way through a problem won't. Not only with I teach your child math but the test taking techniques I have used to consistently be placed in competitive Advanced math classes and courses since the 7th grade and which allowed me to take HL math. Furthermore, I am still a High school student which mean not only do I have full knowledge of the contemporary schooling system and its ins and outs but also can sympathize with my student and instead of being some stuffy extension of their school I can be a helpful guiding friend. My knowledge of math goes from Kindergarten all the way to 10th grade and am comfortable with all subject matter.
