About Claire
Hi, I’m Claire! I’m 20 years old and originally from Xi’an, China. I spent the first two years of my degree studying Translation at Xi’an International Studies University, and now I’m in my third year studying Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. I’ve always loved languages, not just learning them, but also exploring how they work and how they connect people. Teaching Chinese is very meaningful to me because it allows me to share my culture, help others discover the beauty of Mandarin, and watch my students grow more confident step by step. I decided to become a tutor because I really enjoy working with people and making language learning easier and more enjoyable. I know from my own experience that learning a new language can feel challenging at times, so I want to be a supportive guide who makes the journey fun, relaxed, and rewarding.

Hi, I’m Claire! I’m from China and now studying Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington. Before that, I studied Translation in Xi’an, so I have a strong background in both Chinese and English.
When I teach, I like to keep things fun, relaxed, and practical. I believe the best way to learn a language is to actually use it, so my lessons focus a lot on speaking and listening, with games, conversations, and real-life examples. Of course, I also help with reading and writing if that’s what you want to improve.
A normal class is about one hour, but I’m flexible depending on what works best for you. For beginners, I make sure you get comfortable with pinyin, tones, and everyday phrases. For intermediate or advanced learners, I’ll help you with grammar, vocabulary, and sounding natural in conversation.
My lessons are open to all ages and levels-kids who are just starting out, adults who want to pick up Mandarin for travel or work, or students who need extra help with exams.
Most importantly, I try to create a friendly space where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at your own pace. I want my students to feel encouraged and confident after every lesson
